Red White and Blue Pinspiration

Jun 2014

This week it’s all about the red, white and blue here in the states.  With all the berries, potatoes, cheeses and fruits available in the markets, I thought i’d share a little Red White and Blue Pinspiration for your 4th of July entertaining.

I struggled a bit until I came up with the idea of blue potatoes.  Add in some  blue corn chips and my appetizer  menu quickly came together.  Strawberries on a skewers with salty greek feta cheese is another good flavor combo.  From watermelon tequila cocktails, to my  favorite feta and watermelon salad, once you start to let your mind wander, there is no limit to the different combinations you can come up with.

Now I’m not sure I would go to the trouble of rearranging the books on my shelves, but I certainly love the look of the red and white chevron skirt with the blue and white striped top. And those shoes, well i’ll have to be satisfied with looking at those for the time being…

Influence can come from so many sources.  I am lusting after these decor ideas that I couldn’t resist throwing into the mix.  For links and recipes from the board, visit my Red White and Blue Pinspiration on Pinterest.  If you like what you see, say hello and give Green With Renvy a follow.  If you’re an active Pinterest user, let me know in the comments.  I’d love to see what my readers are up to on one of my favorite social media sites.

  1. What a clever and delightful post! I love the same things you do! Happy Fourth of July! Thank you for the inspiration!

Thanks for stopping by Suzanne and for the kind comments. I love Pinterest for putting just this kind of post together. It’s so great for organizing your thoughts.

  2. noel says:

Well those are great pins and quite colorful, now the tough part is what to make for that fun bbq ahead

    • alison says:

That’s supposed to be the fun part Noel. Maybe you just meant it was hard to make a decision because I presented you with so many yummy options : ) Enjoy!

  3. Aren’t blue corn chips a life saver for themed parties? We also did a cute parfait with blueberries and strawberries last year. But yeah, after a google search for “blue food” – we quickly learned that healthy blue foods are few and far between! 😉

    • alison says:

Funny how those corn chips slipped my mind-and I eat them all the time. You are right about the blue foods, all I can think about is that nasty gel coloring people use this time of year. Can only imagine the ingredients!

  4. Alison where are the recipes? The food and the drinks look delish!!!

Margaret-most of the recipes are attached to the individual photos on Pinterest. If you tell me which ones you want, i’ll sent you links.

  5. What a fun way to create a post – putting up one of your Pinterest boards!
We’re already connected on Pinterest – Its a great filing system for us visual types 🙂

Hi Linda-nice to see you! I’m trying to make a more organized method of all SM I use and regularly make the rounds. Have you figured out the magic formula yet?

  6. What an inspiring post! I love the idea of creating a meal or dish colour-coordinated to an event — in Mexico, chile en nogada represents the Mexican flag — and you’ve created an inspiring array of options. In Canada, our flag is just red and white so there’s not o quite as many options. But I did make strawberry shortcake yesterday so I guess that qualifies as patriotic. I’ll check out your board on Pinterest as you’ve pinned some recipes I’d love to try.

  7. What a great idea to use your Pinterest board in your blog post. The recipes look delish!

  8. Blueberries, strawberries and whipped cream are my go to red, white and blue foods for the 4th of July, but I’m thinking that a watermelon, feta salad with some blueberries sprinkled in could work—just to change things up a bit. I think I might be in a red, white and blue food rut.

Watermelon and feta is a great combination Suzanne. Scoup out a small watermelon and you’ve got yourself a serving bowl as well.

  9. Gorgeous, as always.

  10. Jane Shapiro says:

I will be doing the strawberry and feta cheese skewers for sure!! A great change for appetizer!! Love this post… So creative!!!

What a stunning group of photos and ideas for the 4th of July you’ve come up with. I love them all. I would love to entertain on this holiday, but my husband and I are usually trying to keep our pets happy. They don’t like the fireworks noise and we live on the water 🙁 If I ever do throw a party, I think I can find everything I need right here. Lovely and comprehensive post!

  12. You got me at the red, white and blue pizza!
