I used to love nothing more than the smell of a burger on the grill and the resulting juicy patty that came off. Then, about ten years ago, I was listening to a story on WBUR about meat factories in this country.  The particular focus was ground beef.  Being a visual person, the story did a real number on my imagination and left some lasting impressions on me and my psyche!  Needless to say, I haven’t had one of those whole beef patties since.

Last January, I saw the movie Food, Inc.  I had been hearing a lot about ‘knowing where your food comes from’ and the Omnivore’s Dilemma and it made a lot of sense to focus in and see what the movie had to say.  A few minutes of screen time and  I knew my days of eating meat had come to a screeching halt. The image of those chickens going around the loop like a piece of dry-cleaning is something that still haunts me. I do miss eating chicken, but can’t change the visual, so my carnivore days are a thing of the past.  I am always on the search for new recipes and look forward to sharing my finds on this blog.  I love the concept of Meatless Mondays and will at least to attempt to schedule my writing accordingly. I also delight in the fact that weekday vegetarianism can reduce a person’s carbon footprint by 70%. That’s a remarkable 14% a day!  And if your household is like mine, since i’m doing the cooking, everybody else in the house comes along for the ride that day without even hearing from a Preachy Mother.  I won’t even start on the additional health benefits…….
