DIY Deck the Halls with Mother Nature
What do you get when you combine Red Stick Dogwood and Tangerines with a little glitter and glue?
A pretty fab handmade decoration for your Holiday Table that continues my Tangerine Tango inspiration.
What you’ll Need:
-
branches-I am lucky to have Red Stick Dogwood {pictured below}, so I could bypass step #2 of spray painting
-
clippers
- red spray paint
- tangerines or other citrus fruit {limes would be great for a red and green combo}
- some sort of material for hanging-garden wire or you could even use ribbon
- orange glitter and glue {if you can find Extreme Glitter by Plaid in #2775 orange it will make your life easier-it’s a combo glitter and glue acrylic paint} other wise use Modge Podge or Elmers
- parchment paper
-
Directions:
-
1. Cut branches for display
-
2. If your branches are not red, spray paint them red in a well ventilated location
- 3. After dry, accent the branches with the orange glitter glue.
- 4. Pre heat oven to 200 degrees. Cut tangerines or oranges into 1/4” slices and pat dry with a paper towel. Place on parchment paper and dry in a 200 degree oven for approx 2-2 1/2 hrs. turning every half way thru. {until moisture has been removed}
- 5. Let cool and paint with glitter glue or Elmers glue and coat with glitter
- 6. Arrange branches in your container and poke a hole in each of the fruit ornaments. Attach hanging method of wire or ribbon.
- 7. Finish around the bottom with some greenery from your Xmas tree or outside. Accent with pomegranates if desired and a few ornaments on the branches
Stand back and admire your efforts. This can of course be done with any color combination to suit your mood or decor. Something about glitter just adds a sparkle and smile to any handmade project!
